Fascinated by his writing
Wednesday, 11 May 2011
The article headlined 'Corporal punishment must stop' is the most powerful piece of 'sit-up and pay attention' writing I've read in many years. (Financial Express, May 5).
If Sir Frank Peters can be accused of anything, it certainly isn't diluting his views to make them softer and appeasing to some. He calls a spade a spade and accurately hits the nail on the head each and every time with good intent and the best interests of all in Bangladesh.
While most of us pussy-foot around, do the toe-in-the-water test and dance around such topics, he heads straight to the jugular and wrestles the beast to the ground.
I was fascinated and totally gripped by his writing that was logical and irrefutable in fact. No doubt he intended it as a wake-up call to students, parents, schools, but especially teachers and I, for one, wish him every success.
He asks how is it possible to beat love and respect into anyone? Sadly, the teaching fraternity seems to think it is, much to their - and our - shame.
