NILPHAMARY, Sept 24: The proposed master plan for expansion and modernisation of Saidpur Railway Workshop in Nilphamari, which was scheduled to be undertaken few months earlier, has become uncertain for unknown reasons, sources said.
Saidpur Railway authority finalised a project proposal to modernise the traditional workshop which was built during the British regime, the sources added.
According to the project proposal prepared by the workshop authority, Tk 1.81 billion (181 crore) has been estimated to be spent for the expansion and modernisation work of the project.
Sources close to the project said the World Bank and the ADB have also intended to provide necessary support to the project. Besides logistic as well as technical support is also expected from the government of India.
It is to be noted that Saidpur Railway Workshop repairs both metre gauge and broad gauge wagons and passenger compartments.
The Railway Workshop sources said if proper initiative is taken, the workshop is capable of making new carriages for railways.
