The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has called upon the country's business community, including its affiliated associations and chambers, to come forward to help the flood victims.
The appeal of the apex trade body came at an emergency meeting held Saturday at the Federation Bhaban in the city with FBCCI president Mir Nasir Hossain in the chair, said a press release.
Among others, Mohammad Ali, first vice president, Dewan Sultan Ahmed, second vice president, and directors of FBCCI were present at the meeting.
FBCCI leaders at the meeting expressed their concern and grief over the sufferings of the people caused by the current floods.
The meeting observed that floodwaters affected at least 36 districts across the country, causing immense sufferings to millions of people.
Leaders of the apex trade body, however, discussed ways to distribute relief materials in flood affected areas with help of the district level chambers and associations.
Apart from this, they have decided, in principle, to extend all possible cooperation with the caretaker government in the relief distribution programmes.
Against this backdrop, the meeting, however, formed a committee, headed by the president of the federation, to take measures towards helping the flood victims.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the FBCCI have requested all businessmen and elite of the society to contribute relief to the FBCCI Relief Fund, opened at the Federation Bhaban at Motijheel, Dhaka.
