FBCCI polls Tomorrow

The biennial election of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) will take place tomorrow (Monday).
A total of 49 candidates are vying for the posts of 24 directors. Some 27 candidates are contesting from chamber groups and 22 from association groups in this election.
Chairman of the FBCCI election committee Md Ali Ashraf said it has taken all necessary steps for conducting the election in a peaceful manner.
"We have taken all measures for the election. This is the first time we will conduct the election through transparent ballot boxes," Ali Ashraf added.
He also said the voters will exercise their right to franchise to elect 24 directors to the FBCCI executive committee during 9:00 am to 5:00 pm voting hours on Monday.
The results of the election will be announced on the same day.
The polling will be witnessed by the chief election commissioner, inspector general of police, commerce secretary and editors of national dailies.
Seven directors, one each from country's seven leading chamber organisations, have already been elected.
They are Afttab-ul-Islam from the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, AK Rafiqul Islam from Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Amirul Haque from Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Md Hasen Ali from Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Junnan Mahmud Khan from Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Saharuzzaman Murtaza from Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Md Ebaidul Hoque Chand from Barisal Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Seven others from the country's leading association groups have also been elected.
They are Abdul Hai Sarkar from Bangladesh Textiles Mills Association, Annisul Huq from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Abdul Matlub Ahmed from Bangladesh Insurance Association, SM Shafiuzzaman from Bangladesh Association for Pharmaceutical Association, AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul from Bangladesh Bankers Association, Kazi Belayet Hossain from Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association and Kamran Tanvirur Rahman from Bangladesh Jute Mills Association.
The elected directors will in turn elect the president, senior vice president and vice president of the apex body on March 19.
