Building safety issue
FBCCI pushes for separate authority to approve structural design
FE REPORT | Monday, 1 August 2022
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) urged on Sunday the government to establish a separate authority to approve the structural design to ensure the safety of the building.
It also called upon the Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakya (RAJUK) to revise the new Detailed Area Plan (DAP).
The apex trade body came up with the recommendations during the first meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee on Real Estate and Housing held at FBCCI in the capital on the day.
Joining at the meeting virtually the President of FBCCI Md Jashim Uddin called for establishing a separate authority to approve the structural design to ensure the safety of the building.
He also urged the RAJUK to revise the new Detailed Area Plan - DAP.
He informed that RAJUK gives approval of the architectural design of the building, and there is no agency to approve the structural design.
"Hence, separate authority should be formed to ensure the building safety," he said.
He said that the government should facilitate automated brick production with policy support to stop pollution from traditional brick fields.
The automated bricks are more affordable, he maintained.
Vice President of FBCCI Md Amin Helaly said REHAB (Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh) should come up with a model village plan which would include all the modern facilities to ensure decent living in rural areas.
Standing Committee Director in Charge and REHAB President Alamgir Shamsul Alamin Kajal said the sector has become more compliant over the years.
He said that the REHAB members hand over 10 thousand flats on average annually. He said that 270 sub-sectors are directly related to the real estate sector.
"Therefore, facilitating this sector, the government policy support would further develop all the sub-sectors," he mentioned.
While chairing, Standing Committee Chairman Liakat Ali Bhuiyan Milan said that the committee would analyse and draft the policy needed to flourish the real estate sector.
The meeting also observed that the REHAB should continue its discussion with Bangladesh Bank governor and the concerned association to ease out the project loan in the real estate sector.
Co-chairmen of the committee Mohammad Ali Deen, Mohammad Nizam Uddin Jitu, AFM Ubaidullah, Kamal Mahmud also spoke at the meeting.
