FBCCI seeks more time to set up ETPs

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Saturday urged the government to extend time for setting up of effluent treatment plants (ETPs) at country's different industrial units.
Earlier, the government gave directives to the industrials units to complete formalities for opening letter of credits (LCs) by June 30 aiming at installing the ETPs within October 31 this year.
However, the FBCCI organised a meeting at its conference room Saturday with all stakeholders Saturday.
FBCCI president Mir Mohammed Nasir Uddin presided over the meting.
The FBCCI meeting decided to meet with the Environment Adviser shortly to raise time for installing ETPs.
Installation of the ETP is a time consuming matter and the government should allow several years for the same, meeting sources said.
The FBCCI also decided to organise a fair in the city on the issue to create awareness among the industrialists.
FBCCI leaders said local experts should be incorporated with such projects.
Apart from FBCCI directors, representatives of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, Bangladesh Textile dying and Printing Industries Association, Bangladesh Export-oriented Garment Washing Industries Owners Association among others were present at the meeting.
