Tuesday, 16 June 2015

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Tuesday asked Jamaat-e-Islami to withdraw the hartal it has called on Wednesday.
Jamaat-e-Islami announced a 24-hour countrywide hartal for Wednesday protesting the verdict of the Supreme Court (SC) that upheld the death penalty of war criminal Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed, which had earlier been awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal-2.
In a press release, the FBCCI said the Jamaat should withdraw the shutdown in order to continue the trend of economic development.
Hartal called to protest a judicial judgment cannot be supported in any way while aggrieved person get the chance to go to the higher court as per the country’s existing law, the statement added.
FBCCI said hartal is not desired now as the country’s economy has just started recovering the losses that it suffered during the turbulent political situation that prevailed during the first three months of the year, a news agency report added.
FBCCI also urged all the political parties of the country not to undertake any kind of negative political programme that creates barriers to economic advancement.
