Federer, Ivanovic advance

Friday, 29 June 2007

Wimbledon champion Roger Federer took just 11 minutes on day four to wrap up a convincing straight-sets win over Argentine teen Juan Martin del Potro, reports BBC.
The Swiss, aiming for a fifth straight Wimbledon crown, sped through the first set, breaking in games six and eight.
Del Potro put up more resistance in the second, until an error on a forehand in game 12 handed Federer the set. And, after an overnight rain delay, Federer secured the win 6-2 7-5 6-1, his 50th straight victory on grass.
Meantime, Ana Ivanovic secured her berth in the third round at Wimbledon with a straighforward win over Meilen Tu.
The Serbian sixth seed (19), who reached the fourth round last year, overcame Tu, ranked 38 in the world, 6-4 6-3.
Ivanovic broke Tu in the opening game but was forced to save two break points in the next, the second with an ace.
She broke Tu in the fifth game of the second set, and set up match point at 5-3 on her opponent's serve. Tu hit a backhand long to seal her own fate.
