Feni customs division collects Tk 800m as VAT

FENI, July 14 (BSS): Customs Excise and VAT Division of Feni has collected Tk 800 million as Value Added Tax (VAT) during the fiscal 2007-8.

The division, which comprised Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni and Khagrachhari districts as well as Mirersharai and Sitakunda Upazilas of Chittagong district, exceeded its target in VAT collection, Assistant Commissioner of Feni Division Khondoker Nazmul Huq told the news agency.

Though the target could not be achieved in cement, beverage and construction sectors, the VAT collection from these sectors was higher than the preceding year.

The division earned Taka 23,20,84,000 from construction sector against the target of Taka 27,60,03,000; Taka 3,30,82,000 from beverage and Taka 6,59,90,000 from cement sectors.

In the power sector, the division collected Taka 6,38,00,000 against the target of Taka 8,59,56,000.

Besides, the authorities have made record VAT collection from the hotel, restaurant, community centre, clinic and pathology centres in the areas under the Feni division.
