Ferry services on Daulatdia-Paturia route resume

Sunday, 7 December 2014

Ferry services on Daulatdia-Paturia waterways resumed on Sunday morning after a four-hour disruption due to dense fog. Mahiuddin Rasel, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha Ferry Ghat (terminal), said the ferry services as well as the plying of other watercraft came to a halt at 4:00am due to blurred visibility caused by dense fog. Two ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers were kept anchored at Daulatdia in Rajbari while three ferries at Paturia in Manikganj. Besides, 11 ferries remained stopped in the middle of Padma River since 4:00am. Passengers suffered as a good number of vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing. Movement of ferries in the important river route resumed at about 8:00am as fog started disappearing after the sunrise, according to a news agency.
