Thursday, 11 December 2014

Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route in Padma River resumed after 8 hours of disruption caused by dense fog on Thursday morning. Bidyut Kumar Saha, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha Ferry Ghat in Manikganj said they kept suspended ferry services and plying of the watercraft from 11:00pm on Wednesday to 7:00am on Thursday due to blurred visibility for dense fog. Four ferries lay motionless in the middle of Padma River for 8 hours. Four other ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers were kept anchored at Daulatdia Ghat (terminal) and five ferries at Paturia. Passengers suffered as a good number of vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing. Ferry services on the important routes resumed around 7:00am as fog started disappearing after the sunrise, according to a news agency.
