Ferry services resume after over 12 hrs

Wednesday, 10 December 2014

Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route in Padma River resumed after 12-and-half-hour’s disruption caused by dense fog on Wednesday morning. Bidyut Kumar Saha, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha Ghat, said they kept suspended ferry services and plying of the watercraft from 10:00pm on Tuesday to 10:30am on Wednesday due to blurred visibility for dense fog. Four ferries – Barkat, Shahali, Kumari and Shaplashaluk – lay motionless in the middle of Padma River. 7 ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers were kept anchored at Daulatdia and five ferries at Paturia. Passengers suffered as a good number of vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing. Ferry services on the waterways resumed around 10:30am as fog started disappearing after the sunrise, according to a news agency.
