Fertiliser being smuggled out to India, Myanmar

CHITTAGONG, Oct 30: Smuggling of fertiliser to the neighbouring India and Myanmar through different smuggled routes from Chittagong, has become rampant and an acute crisis of fertilisers is apprehended in the coming winter season due to such activities, sources said.
Chaktai, Mazirghat, Anwara, Banshkhali and Cox's Bazar based different smugglers syndicates are allegedly involved in this illegal smuggling of fertilisers and other goods from Chittagong.
It is learnt, incidents of smuggling of fertilisers an essential item of agricultural works, through the coastal areas of Chittagong almost regularly and a huge quantity of fertiliser were smuggled during a fortnight period in current month after Shab-e-Qadr and Eid vacation, sources said.
Sources further said, smugglers first began procuring and storing the fertilisers and with the beginning of the vacation, the gang began smuggling those fertilisers to the neighbouring countries by the launch, boats and trawlers.
