Fertiliser, LNG, wheat imports approved

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) at a meeting on Wednesday approved procurement of liquefied natural gas (LNG), fertiliser and wheat, among others.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the meeting held at Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.
Under an approval, state-run Petrobangla has been given the go-ahead to import two cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market to meet the country's gas need in late July.
The BP Singapore Pte Ltd and TotalEnergies Gas & Power Ltd, UK will supply one cargo of LNG each to the Petrobangla in line with the approval.
Procurement of the LNG cargoes will cost the exchequer Tk 14.375 billion.
Also, the meeting approved import of 270,000 tonnes of wheat from two different sources-one consignment from the United States and another from Singapore.
Some 220,000 tonnes of wheat will be imported from the United States under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement where each tonne of wheat will cost $322. The total procurement cost will be Tk 8.695 billion in this case.
On the other hand, Singapore-based M/S Agrocorp International Pte Ltd will supply 50,000 tonnes of wheat to the Directorate of Food at a total cost of Tk 1.828 billion where each tonne of wheat will cost $297.92.
Also, the meeting approved a proposal to import 75,000 tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP) fertiliser from Russia and Canada at a cost of Tk 3.51 billion under two separate procurements.
The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will import 35,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Russia's JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) at a cost of Tk 1.639 billion where each tonne of the item will cost $380.
On the other hand, the BADC will import 40,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) at a total cost of Tk 1.87 billion where each tonne of fertiliser will cost $380.
