Fertiliser (Management) (Amendment) Bill-2009 placed
Tuesday, 9 June 2009
The Fertiliser (Management) (Amendment) Bill-2009 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad Monday proposing commercial production, marketing and use of organic fertilizer, reports BSS.
Placing the bill Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury said the Fertiliser (Management) Act-2006 was formulated aiming at controlling fertiliser production and ensuring preservation, distribution, transportation and sale of the agri-input. But, any clause regarding use and commercial production of organic fertiliser was not incorporated in the Act.
The Minister said at present organic fertiliser is being used in agriculture and many companies are marketing the organic manure. But, there is no provision of quality control of the fertiliser, as the organic fertiliser is not incorporated in the Act.
On the other hand, many farmers are being cheated due to availability of organic fertiliser in the markets.
Under these circumstances, the Minister said, it is necessary to bring organic fertiliser now being produced on commercial basis under the law by bringing amendments to the existing Fertiliser (Management) Act-2006. As a result, Fertiliser (Management) (Amendment) Ordinance-2009 was formulated incorporating and amending some clauses of the existing Act.
Later, the bill was sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Agriculture to provide report after examining the bill.
