Industries Minister Dilip Barua stressed the need for sufficient stock of fertilisers in a bid to ensure food security in the country. "The government has taken initiatives to ensure sufficient stock of fertiliers in the country from the beginning of its tenure as it is important for food security, he said. The minister was speaking as chief guest at the annual conference of fertiliser dealers, organised by Bangladesh Fertilizer Association (BFA), in the city on Wednesday. Farmers had to run after fertilisers in the past but there is no desperation over the need for the soil nutrient now due to the government's proper management and the dealers' overall contribution. "Dealers are the part of the government's success in the proper management of fertiliser distribution," Mr Barua said calling them 'farmer-friendly' for their positive contribution to the smooth supply of fertilisers. Due to proper distribution of fertilisers, there exists no 'monga' in the northern part of the country, he added. Mr Barua said the government has taken steps to set up two fertiliser factories - Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory and Second Ashuganj Fertilizer Project - for smooth supply of fertilisers. The fertiliser dealers placed a 12-point proposal for smooth distribution of fertilisers.
