Fete de la musique at AF today

Monday, 21 June 2010

World Music Festival, the greatest global music carnival, will be celebrated today (Monday) in Bangladesh and elsewhere in the world amid huge festivity with an aim at promoting music among the mass people, reports UNB.
More than 120 countries and 350 cities across the globe celebrate this grand event each year on 21 June, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. The idea of the World Music Festival, popularly known as "Fete de la Musique" was born in 1981 when the then French Minister of Culture Jack Lang, decided to create a musical event, when amateurs and professionals could perform freely.
The aim of the World Music Festival is to encourage amateur musicians to perform in public places as well as in the streets. Completely different from a music festival, the Fête de la Musique is above all a free popular feast, open to any participant, amateur or professional musicians, who wants to perform in it.
The event allows the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere. It aims at a large audience, working to popularise musical practice for young and not so young people from all social backgrounds. It gives an opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music. A press release of the French embassy said Alliance Française de Dhaka will organise the Fête de la Musique in the city Monday and Alliance Française de Chittagong will organise the festival in Chittagong from Monday to Wednesday.
On this occasion, the Bangladeshi people will be able to attend several free concerts of well-known artists as well as amateurs. After the success of the previous editions of the Fete de la Musique, that is organised each year from 2008, the Alliance Française de Dhaka, in collaboration with the French Embassy and Channel I, will welcome Bangladeshi artists to express themselves and meet a heterogeneous audience, on the occasion.
Being the media partner, Channel I will broadcast one-hour programme on the musical fest on June 25. Alliance Française de Dhaka will offer concerts starting from 3:00 pm. School of Music, teachers and students of Alliance Française de Dhaka as well as famous bands The Bridge, De-Illumination and Warfaze will participate in the event. Alliance Française de Chittagong will present students of Alliance Française de Chittagong as well as French and Bangladeshi bands, such as Les Caribous Volants, Samageet, Nojibul and Shiblo, Alexandre Jurain and Shajahan Munsi.
