Fewer women registering as voters this yr

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed has said that the number of women registering as voters were far below normal mark, this year. He called upon all to inspire women to register in greater numbers as voters. Explaining he said, ‘We had projected a five per cent increase of voters which would mean 4.6 million new ones but so far the number of new voters account for 3 million 82 thousand and 287 which is only a 3.81 per cent rise. Updating of voters’ list started on May 15 this year and so far 350 Upazilas in different districts have been enumerated. From today (Monday) work will start in the remaining 120 Upazilas and Dhaka and Chittagong metropolitan cities, according to a news agency.
