FF says Sobhan knifed his father to death

Wednesday, 16 April 2014

A prosecution witness has accused Jamaat-e-Islami leader Maulana Abdus Sobhan of stabbing his father to death after dragging him out of a mosque at Iswardi in Pabna 43 years ago. PW No-2 Tahurul Alam Mollah, a freedom fighter, told International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 that a group of people captured his father, Syed Moazzem Hossain, who had earlier taken refuge at Iswardi central mosque after Asr prayers and dumped at an abandoned house near a coal depot, which had been turned into a torture centre. “Seeing my father, Maulana Sobhan, who was present there at that time, took a knife from one of his cohorts and stabbed him. And then his followers started chopping him until death,” sobbing Tahurul recalled while testifying against the accused on Tuesday. Tahurul said the following day, he heard that Maulana Sobhan had killed his cousin, Matlub Ahmed, and his son, Nazmul Huq Khan, at the same place after their capture. The deposition over, the PW was cross-examined in part by the defence counsel, according to a news agency.
