FFs file contempt plea against Zafrullah with ICT

Five people including three Liberation War heroes filed on Monday a petition against veteran freedom fighter and founder of Gonoswasthya Kendra, Zafrullah Chowdhury with the International Crimes Tribunal, pleading to initiate contempt proceedings, reports BSS.
Senior vice-chairman of National Freedom Fighters Foundation Manoranjan Ghoshal, Ali Asgar, Nazrul Islam and Gonojagoron Manch organiser Kamal Pasha Chowdhury and FM Shahin filed the petition against Zafrullah.
ICT-2 is scheduled to hear the plea today (Tuesday).
"He was punished for committing contempt of court by the tribunal on June 10. After coming out of the courtroom, the contemnor briefed the journalists and made some adverse comment about the tribunal and its Judges," they said.
"According to us, he has committed contempt of court by his statement and now we are pleading before the tribunal to draw contempt proceedings against him," they added.
The ICT-2 on June 10 sentenced Dr Zafrullah to one hour simple imprisonment for committing contempt of court for the second time. The tribunal also fined him Tk 5,000 and one month's imprisonment in default.
