Field day on potato harvesting machine held at Shibpur

RAJSHAHI, Mar 10: A field day on use of Potato Harvester Machine was held at Shibpur under Puthia Upazila Sunday.
Presided over by Dr. Israel Hossain, Chief Scientific Officer of Regional Wheat Research Centre, Rajshahi, the function of the Field Day was attended, among others, by Saiful Islam, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department as the chief guest and Scientific Officer of RWRC as special guest. Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute, Rajshahi region, organised the function.
The farmers attending the field day function were apprised by the speakers of the function that by using Potato Harvesting Machine designed and invented by Rajshahi Regional Wheat Research Centre, a farmer can harvest potato of seven to eight bigha of land in a day and the machine is cost efficient too. They were also informed that normally 20-25 labourers are required to harvest potato of one bigha of land in a day which cost them taka 5,000 to 6,000 while a farmer can harvest potato through the machine by employing only four to five labourers and cost involved is only Tk 1,000 to 1,500.
