Fifa lacking fair play in WC scheduling: Van Gaal

Sunday, 22 June 2014

Louis van Gaal has criticised Fifa for a lack of fair play in forcing his Netherlands side to play their final World Cup (WC) Group B fixture before finding out their potential opponents in the round of 16. The Oranje have already qualified for the knockout stage following victories over Spain and Australia and face Chile on Monday in a 18:00CET kick-off hoping to clinch top spot in Group B. The Dutch coach sees the scheduling as favouritism towards Brazil, who have played their games prior to Group B matches over the previous two matchdays, and believes that the world governing body have been unfair on his side. “Fifa, for every match, has all their commercials and clips about fair play. But the way they play these tricks and schedules Brazil matches like this is not fair play anymore,” insisted Van Gaal, according to a news agency.
