Fiji will host the 55th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation, Asia and Pacific Region (DGCA/55) from October 22-26, 2018 at the Sheraton Fiji Resort in Nadi, reports The Fiji Times.
The theme for this "Collaboration and Harmonisation for a Safe, Secure and Sustainable Aviation in the Asia Pacific Region."
This is the third DGCA Conference to be hosted by Fiji and is a significant aviation regional forum for the collaboration amongst regional Directors General and chief executive officers of civil aviation in the Asia Pacific region.
The ICAO 55th DGCA Conference will be officiated by the Attorney-General and Minister for Civil Aviation, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
The Secretary-General, Fang Liu and the ICAO Council President, Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu will be among the 300 delegates expected to attend the weeklong event.
In addition, there will be representation from the aviation industry partners, stakeholders and observer countries outside the Asia Pacific region.
The DGCA Conference provides an important platform for discussing the progress and solutions of international and regional civil aviation matters which has been taking place every year since 1960.
The Fijian Government has made significant progress in elevating local civil aviation to international standards not only with the effective implementation of the ICAO Standards but also addressing the impact of aviation on climate change.
Fiji became the first Pacific Island State to present a State Action Plan for the reduction in aviation greenhouse gas emissions in 2015.
