Filing nominations for upazila polls ends

A large number of candidates filed nomination papers Saturday for contesting the election to 481 upazila parishads scheduled for January 22. Reports reaching from the districts said candidates ranging up to 15 filed nomination papers for the post of chairman of an upazila parishad. Filing of nominations was marked by lot of enthusiasm. Women aspirants were not lagging behind. Election Commission (EC) sources said a complete picture of candidates might be available today (Sunday). "We are pre-occupied more with national election," said a senior official. Saturday was the last date for filing nomination papers for the upazila polls. Scrutiny will be held December 17-19 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 31. - UNB
