FE Report
The country's film animation studios are doing brisk business mainly due to the increased use of the computer-generated images both in 2-dimension and 3-dimension modes. Most of the studios remain booked for the next few months and are not taking fresh orders. Bangladesh has 15-20 animation studios involving 2D, 3D animation facilities. Animations works are now becoming popular in Bangladesh mainly due to making of cartoon movies, television commercials and animation-based documentary films. At least five studios are now busy making the widely admired UNICEF-sponsored Meena TV series, while other studios are working on different kinds of CGIs (computer generated images) both for local and export markets. Zaheen Hasan, managing director of Toonbangla, told the FE: "We're booked until September. We're not taking any fresh orders." Sarwar Alam, managing director of Greentoon, said the demand for animations works has increased manifold in recent years in the country. "My studio is also booked for several months, but I've an extra capacity to carry out works relating to CGIs," he added. Earlier, many film makers and development agencies used to travel overseas to prepare animation works, especially in India, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. Executive director of Pran-RFL Group, a leading agro-processing company, said they take now animation related help from local studios. Experts said animation studios, a sub-sector of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) have potential in the country as Bangladesh has adequate numbers of fine arts students. Mahbub Zaman, BASIS (Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services) president, said the sub-sector has immense potential and the studios need better financial access to working capital.
