Final draft of national edn policy to be submitted in August

Friday, 24 July 2009

The final draft of the National Education Policy providing for comprehensive changes in the education system will be submitted in the last week of August, reports UNB.
Dr Quazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Co-chair of the National Education Policy Formulation Committee (NEPFC), disclosed the latest position Thursday, a little deferring the time limit.
"Our deadline for submitting the draft policy was August 3, but we would have to submit it in the last week of August after completing the process of consultation with the organisations and stakeholders concerned in phases for necessary opinions and suggestions," he told the news agency.
Dr Ahmed said the committee would start the process of consultation with the organisations and stakeholders concerned from July 27 after finalising the preliminary draft.
"Many organisations want to have discussions on the primary draft and so do we," he added.
Prof Ahmed, also president of Bangladesh Economic Association, said they are going to formulate a pro-people education policy focusing all marginalised communities in the country.
He said the committee wants to formulate a pragmatic policy which will ensure national consensus, social and moral values and the spirit of the Liberation War.
The government formed a 16-member committee on April 8 to review the report of Shamsul Haque Education Committee 1997 in order to formulate a modern national education policy in line with the report of Qudrat-e-Khuda Education Commission 1974.
