Final list of candidates announced, campaign starts

CHITTAGONG, Sept 25: The final list of candidates for the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) and hall council elections was announced on Thursday.
According to the list, a total of 414 candidates are running for the 26 posts in the student council polls. Of them, 24 candidates are contesting for the vice president (VP) post, 22 for the general secretary (GS) post, and 21 for the assistant general secretary (AGS) post.
According to the CUCSU EC, after scrutiny, appeals and withdrawals, 414 students are participating in the elections. Candidates were able to campaign officially from Thursday.
The EC declared approved the nominations of 12 candidates for sports and sports affairs secretary; 14 for associate sports and sports affairs secretary; 17 for literature, culture and publications secretary; 15 for associate literature, culture and publications secretary; 17 for office secretary; 14 for associate office secretary; 13 for female student welfare secretary (one of the two posts reserved for female students); 10 for associate female student welfare secretary; 11 for science and information technology secretary; 12 for research and innovation secretary; 20 for social service and environment secretary; 15 for health affairs secretary; 17 for Liberation War and democratic movement secretary; 16 for career development and international secretary; 17 for communication and housing secretary; 14 for associate communication and housing secretary; nine for law and human rights secretary; and 20 for library and cafeteria secretary.
In addition, 85 nomination forms were declared valid for five executive member posts.
The voting in the CUCSU elections will be held on October 12 for 28 posts, 16 in the hall parliament, and 10 in the hostel parliament. The total number of voters in the CUCSU elections is 27,634.
