Sunday, 6 June 2010

The eight-team final round of the Grameen Danone Nations Cup for 10-12 years age group, organized by Bangladesh Football Federation, begins today (Sunday) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium with eight matches billed for the opening day, reports UNB.
Tangail DSA will take on Jessore at 8:00 am; Thakurgaon meets Bogra at 8:40 am; Kushtia face Comilla at 9:30 am while Jhalakati play Rajbari at 10:10am, all at Bangabandhu National Stadium Sunday morning.
Four more matches will also be held in the afternoon at the same venue.
The classification matches will be held Monday afternoon prior to the final match to be held at 5:30 pm at the same venue.
Finally, two teams - champions of this year's meet and last year's champions Khulna DSA - will represent Bangladesh in the 45-nation World Finals of the Danone Nations Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa to be held September 29-October 4 this year.
Khulna team, the Bangladesh champions of Danone Nations Cup in 2009, has been given the opportunity to represent the country this time, as they did not take part in the last year's World Finals in Brazil due to Swine Flue.
The Danone Nations Cup, to be known as Kids World Cup, also gives an opportunity to the participating children to interact with legendary footballer Zinedine Zidane.
Earlier, a total of 38 district teams, split into eight groups, took part in the first phase of the meet at the country's eight zonal venues - Gazipur, Brahmanbaria, Thakurgaon, Barisal, Rajbari, Meherpur, Bagerhat and Sirajganj.
