Finance minister opens newly constructed customs office at Benapole

Finance and planning minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith Sunday visited Benapole land port to see the condition of the country's largest land port.
The minister opened the newly constructed building of Benapole Customs and Immigration Check post.
The building was built on the land of some 4711 feet area costing Tk 2.58 crore.
In the inaugural meeting held at the Customs House Auditorium on Sunday morning, the minister underscored the need of a corruption, terrorism and extortion free society for the sake of business friendly environment. 'People need to be conscious to make the society corruption free', the finance minister said in his speech as the chief guest in the inaugural session.
The minister called upon the officials to perform their duties honestly and sincerely. 'People want better service from you', he told the officials and employees at Benapole.
'Law itself cannot resist corruption but the people', the minister added.
Abdul Kafi, customs commissioner, Benapole chaired the meeting while it was addressed among others by health minister AFM Ruhul Haq, lawmakers Sheikh Afil Uddin, Khaledur Rahman Tito and Nurul Islam Moni and Dr Nasir Uddin, chairman, National Board of Revenue, member Hussain Ahmed, joint commissioners of Benapole Customs Ismail Hossain and Shaukat Hossain.
The minister met with the leaders of Jessore Chamber of Commerce and Industries Ltd at Benapole Tourism Centre in the noon. The minister also visited the port area and warehouses and talked with the leaders of Benapole C&F Agents Association.
The minister also spoke at a meeting of Awami League on the Sonali Bank premises at afternoon.
