Financial aid for meritorious students on the cards

The government is planning to provide financial assistance for ensuring admission of the poor and meritorious students in educational institutions, reports UNB.
A policy is also being framed to provide one-off financial support to the students in cases of sustaining critical injury by way of any accident.
These were revealed in an advisory council meeting of the Prime Minister's Education Assistant Trust Fund with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at her Tejgaon office in the city on Sunday.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Minister for Primary and Mass Education Mustafizur Rahman Fizar, chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof A K Azad Chowdhury, FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmad and concerned secretaries were present on the occasion.
Briefing the reporters after the meeting, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri said that a policy to provide financial assistance for ensuring admission of the poor and meritorious students in schools and colleges would reduce the number of drop outs.
The PM called upon the affluent section of the country to donate to the fund generously to help the poor yet meritorious students continue their education.
