Speakers at a training workshop on 'Disaster Risk Reduction and Early Warning' Tuesday stressed the need for taking effective initiatives to make the vulnerable people financially able so that they can tackle any natural disaster themselves.

They made the observation at the closing session of a two-day training course jointly organised by the Disaster Management Bureau (DMB) and National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMCO) in the city.
"Coming out of the relief culture, we have to espouse the culture of preparedness and prevention by creating awareness among the people of all walks of life about reduction of disaster risk", DMB Director General KH Masud Siddiqui said.
DMB Director Mohammad Abu Sadeque, Executive Engineer of Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) Md Saiful Hossain, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Meteorological Department Sijit Kumar Debsarma and Director of Cyclone Preparedness Programme Nasir Ullah, among others, spoke at the workshop.
