BAGERHAT, Mar 22 (UNB): A devastating fire that broke out at Gulsekhali of Chadpai range forest in Sundarbans Saturday was almost brought under control Monday.
M Shahabuddin, official of Chadpai range said the fire was still on in some places and it would be totally brought under control by today (Tuesday).
Mihir Kumar Do, DFO of Sundarbans East Division, told the news agency that the fire might have originated from burning cigarette or some thing inflammable left by fisherman, bawali or others.
The fire soon spread out and gutted at least five acres of forest with various trees in last two days-Saturday and Sunday, he said.
Firefighters with the assistance of forest department and local people made frantic efforts for extinguishing the blaze.
