Fire at BD Food godown at Gazipur, 5 hurt

GAZIPUR, June 7: Five people including a fire-fighter were injured at a devastating fire incident at the godown of BD Food Limited at Bhawal Mirzapur area under Sadar upazila of the district Monday.
According to local sources, the fire broke out at about 1 pm, and at once spread across the godown. On information, 10 fire-fighting units from Dhaka, Gazipur, Tongi and Dhaka EPZ rushed to the spot, and took the situation under control at about 5:30 pm.
No major casualty was reported, as most of the workers were out of the unit for lunch.
Md Bahadur Bapari, the factory manager, claimed that building, machinery and valuables including various raw materials worth about millions of taka were destroyed at the fire incident.
Of the injured, fire-fighter Pabitra (32) was admitted to Gazipur Sadar Hospital.
Gazipur Fire Service deputy director Md Rafikul Islam said they primarily suspected that the fire might be originated from electric short circuit.
But the actual cause of the fire and amount of loss would be known after proper investigation, he added.
