A fire broke out at a readymade garment factory in the city’s Mirpur area Sunday afternoon.
The fire originated at a go-down of ‘Cordial Design Ltd’ on the third floor of the six-storied ‘Salimuddin Market’ in Mirpur-1 around 5:35pm and it raged through the entire floor, said Nazrul Islam, an operator at the Fire Service Control Room.
On information, 13 firefighting units rushed in and doused the blaze after one and a half hours of frantic efforts, according to a news agency.
Several workers of the factory got stranded on the rooftop of the factory building during the fire. Later, they were rescued by the firefighters.
Meanwhile, a worker, Priti Begum, 22, was injured when she along with others tried to come out of the factory hurriedly. She was admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor).
The Fire Service could not ascertain the reason behind the fire immediately, Nazrul said, adding that the extent of losses from the fire is yet to be assessed.
