Fire at Nowapara powerplant: 2 seriously hurt

Our Correspondent KHULNA, Nov 12: Two persons were seriously injured in a fire incident at Nowapara 105 MW quick rental power plant on Friday and the extent of damage is estimated at Tk. 80 million. The injured Sumon (30) and Alamgir Hossain were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, source said. Fire service source said that the fire occurred while the workers were welding near furnace oil at under construction power plant and the fire quickly engulfed the adjacent areas. Later fire-fighting vehicles from Nowapara fire station went to the spot and extinguished the fire after 3 hours. Team leader of Nowapara fire station Abdur Rouf Molla said that the fire incident occurred due to negligence of the authority. Body recovered Police recovered decomposed body of a young woman from a house of Darus Salam Mohalla under Sonadanga thana of the city on Friday night. Police said that on being informed they recovered the body from the house of Porshid Sarkar at Sonadanga. The also recovered some documents from the house. Police suspected the woman was a call girl and she was murdered about 34 days ago. According to caretaker of the house, a man named Mizan rented the house one and a half months ago. But the room was found locked after Eid day. Police arrested the caretaker of the house Ashraf for interrogation and the body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy. Fisherman killed by tiger A fisherman was by a tiger in Sundarbans on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Billal Gazi (22), son of Asadul Gazi of village Kalabagi under Dacop Upazila of the district. Assistant Conservator of Nalian range Jahurul Haq said that Billal Gazi went to Sundarbans for fishing. A tiger attacked him from back side while he was netting in Shibsha river area. His associates and forest guards recovered his body from deep forest after searching about 11 hours. The body was handed over to his family members on Friday.
