Friday, 14 June 2013

At least 46 shops at a market in the city's Badda area were gutted in a devastating fire Thursday morning. Officials at the Fire Service and Civil Defence said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop at Haji Supermarket at Madhya Badda around 5.00am and it soon engulfed 45 other adjoining shops. The entire tin-shed market that housed the shops of cosmetics, grocery, fabrics and other items was burnt to ashes. On information, 10 units of firefighters from the fire service headquarters and Baridhara, Tejgaon and Khilgaon fire service stations rushed to the spot and doused the flame around 7.00am after two hours of hectic efforts. — UNB
