Fire guts 12 shops in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, Aug 22 (UNB): At least 12 shops were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Kalibari Bazar in the district town Tuesday.
Sources said the fire originated at a cotton shop of the bazar from an electric short circuit at about 2.00 pm and soon engulfed the other shops.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after an hour of frantic efforts with the help of local people.
The shop owners claimed that cash and valuables worth Tk 0.5 million (5.0 lakh) were gutted in the fire.
