Fire guts 60 shops, houses in city

Valuables of some 60 houses and shops were gutted when a devastating fire broke out in a city's residential area at Paschim Katashur under Mohammadpur thana Saturday, reports UNB.
Fire brigade sources said the blaze originated from an electric short circuit at a grocery shop in Green View Housing area at about 1:00 am and soon engulfed the adjacent 14 other shops and 45 tin-shed houses.
Eight units of fire brigade from Mohammadpur, Mirpur, Palashi and Tejgaon rushed to the spot and put out blaze with the help of local people. Fire brigade sources said valuables worth about Tk 1.0 million were gutted in the blaze while they rescued valuables worth around Tk 2.0 million.
