Friday, 20 June 2014

A fire gutted a storeroom of a readymade garment factory at Savar’s Ashulia, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka, Friday evening.
Fire-fighters doused the flames one-and-a-half-hour after it broke out around 6pm, said DEPZ Fire Service’s Station Officer Abdul Hamid Mia, according to a news agency.
However, Industrial Police officials said there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Mia said the fire originated from the storage on the ground floor of the four-storey factory, ‘Z-A Apparels Limited’, situated at Ashulia’s Kuturia. The flames then spread very quickly.
He said six units of fire-fighters from Savar, DEPZ and Dhamrai Fire Service and Civil Defence stations put out the fire.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out at another factory at Ashulia’s Narsinghpur earlier on the day.
An electric short-circuit in the server room of the factory, ‘Medlar Apparels Limited’, started the fire around 2:15pm, said Industrial Police’s ASP Shahidul Islam.
