Fire guts sugarcane in Chuadanga

A devastating fire gutted sugarcane on 300 bighas of land in an agricultural farm of Keru and Company sugar mills in Darshana upazila in Chuadanga on Saturday noon. Witnesses said the fire broke out in the sugarcane field at about 1 pm and soon engulfed the whole field. On information, three fire fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after four hours of frantic efforts.The incident occurred during Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu’s visit to the sugar mills. The damage caused by the fire was estimated at Tk 1.5 crore. Police visited the spot. The origin of the fire could not be known immediately, according to UNB.
