Fire gutted valuables worth Tk 5.0 million at a yarn and dying factory at Kanchpur in Narayanganj Monday, fire-fighters said.
Witnesses said the fire originated from the ground floor of five-storied Sinha Yarn and Dying Unit at about 4:40pm, and soon spread across the floor, destroying drying machinery and yarn worth Tk 5.0 million within minutes.
On information, several units of fire-fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire with the help of local people.
An officer of the Fire Brigade told the FE that an overheated drying machine caused the blaze. However, none was hurt in the fire, as workers were evacuated from the plant immediately.
Meanwhile, a CNG-run taxicab was caught in fire due to its cylinder explosion at Kakrail in the city in the afternoon, creating panic among the passers-by. None was hurt in the explosion.
