Fire in city RMG unit
FE Report | Friday, 7 March 2014
A fire broke out at an apparel factory, gutting readymade garment (RMG) products and machinery in the capital's Zigatola area Thursday, firefighters said.
The fire broke out at Bengle Glory, housed on the second floor of a five-story building at 15/G, Zigatola, at about 5:50pm. The fire originated from an electric short circuit and spread to the third floor of the building within minutes.
On information, 11 units from various fire stations rushed to the spot and doused the flame after one hour's frantic efforts with the help of locals and law enforcers.
A senior fireman said no one was hurt in the fire as workers left the unit by 5:00pm after finishing their jobs for the day.
"RMG products and machinery were gutted in the fire," he said, adding that the extent of loss could not be ascertained.
