Fire kills woman, burns her daughter

A woman was burnt alive and her daughter critically injured when a fire broke out in their house at Bhedbhedi Muslim Para in Rangamati town Tuesday evening. The dead is Rahima Begum, 60, wife of Hasan Mistri of Bhedbhedi Muslim Para. Fire service sources said the fire might have been originated from chemicals, stored in the house, used as raw materials to produce candles. Several firefighting units from Rangamati Fire Station rushed in doused the blaze. They also rescued Hasan Mistry’s daughter Popy Akther, 13, with severe burn injuries. She was rushed to Rangamati General Hospital which referred her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) as her condition deteriorated, according to a news agency.
