Fire Service saves property worth Tk 9.28m in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Nov 13: An official of Fire Service and Civil Defence Department (FSCDD) in a function here Friday evening said properties worth TK 9.28 million were saved from 78 fire incidents in the district in last nine months till September.
"On the contrary, properties worth about 3.91 million were also gutted by the devastating fires in the district during the period", he also said.
Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Abdul Hamid disclosed it while he was exchanging views with the journalists of print and electronic media at his office of the town here on November 12 marking the month long publicity campaign by the department.
A total of 383 students of school and colleges were also provided short term training on fire during the time so that they could fight fire with their moral courage and fortitude, he also said.
Welcoming the journalists DAD M. Abdul Hamid sought cooperation of all the media men to raise consciousness among the mass people about checking the incidence of fire in and around their homes and business establishments to protect lives and properties from the wrath of blaze.
Giving their assurance in this regard the pressmen urged the authorities concerned to gear up the training programme and to bring more students of the academic institutions under it to create much awareness among them about fire and its extinguishing.
Earlier, Fire Service and Civil Defence Week- 2010 was also celebrated in the district from November 8 to 10 in a befitting manner, office sources said.
In the celebration of the week, FSCDD chalked out the elaborate programmes that included publicity, equipment display, fire extinguishing practice, pasting posters, distribution leaflets, training, suggestive meeting, charity volley ball match and cultural function.
