Fire stations will be raised to 549 by 2021: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday informed the House that the number of fire stations in the country will be increased to 549 by 2021. She said the government plans to implement a Tk 1.63 billion-project to procure modern equipment to raise the counrtry’s fire-fighting capacity and effectively face earthquake and other natural disasters. The Prime Minister was replying to a starred question from Bazlul Haque Harun (Jhalakati-1) during her scheduled question-answer session in parliament. She said the country has now 273 fire stations. Hasina said that 1,276 people have been appointed to the Fire Service Department while the process for hiring another 1,478 personnel is being considered by her government, according to a news agency.
