Firewood trader killed in Sundarbans

KHULNA, Dec 10 (UNB) - A firewood trader was shot dead by pirates at a canal in Muchir Dowani area of Sundarbans in Koyra upazila early Friday. The deceased was identified as Jahangir Hossain, 35, son of Shahidul Sarder of Basakhali village in Paikgachha upazila. Koyra thana OC Ali Azam said Jahangir and his associates after collecting firewood from Sundarbans were waiting in their trawler at Jabbar-Jarina canal at about 2am. At that time a gang of pirates in two trawlers while passing the area shot and wounded Jahangir and fled the scene. Jahangir later died on way to the upazila health complex. The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
