NEW YORK, Nov 19: Kuwait which had hitherto remained unaffected by the Arab Spring contagion witnessed its first anti-government demonstration day before yesterday. It was not a protest in the streets. It was the Kuwaiti lawmakers who led the protest. They burst into Kuwait parliament building, demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister and political reforms.
Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Jaber, using the familiar language used by disposed autocrats like Ben Ali, Hosni Mubarak, Gaddafi and present embattled president of Syrya Bashar al-Asad, warned that he would not tolerate pre-planned sabotage. Emir convened an emergency meeting of the cabinet and ordered 'stricter measures to confront the chaostic behaviour'.
The opposition in Kuwait charged the prime minister with corruption which the government vehemently denied.
