First campus-based IT business incubator opens in Ctg today

CHATTOGRAM, July 05: The country's first-ever university campus-based IT business incubator will kick off its journey on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will virtually inaugurate the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET)'s Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator in the morning.
Prime Minister's advisor on information technology (IT) Sajeeb Wazed Joy will attend the inaugural event at Ganabhaban.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Sheikh Jamal dormitory and Rosy Jamal dormitory of the CUET at the same time virtually from Ganabhaban.
Construction of the Tk 1.25 billion (Tk 125 crore) Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator, undertaken five years ago, was completed recently. It has been set up in memory of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The first campus-based IT business incubator has been built mainly with the aim of developing IT entrepreneurs and expanding knowledge-based economy.
Establishment of the institution is considered to be a milestone in building 'Smart Bangladesh' within 2041.
State minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak will also be present at the inaugural function and deliver the welcome speech.
Besides, CUET Vice Chancellor Professor Engineer Dr Rafiqul Islam and top government officials of Chattogram including the divisional commissioner and deputy commissioner will also be present at the event.
Considered to be a dream project of the government, the Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator has been set up at CUET also to create successful entrepreneurs in the IT sector, encourage research and innovation activities at university level and boost the industry-academy collaboration.
Sources said, the project is the first of its kind at university level to achieve the expected level of IT revenue by expanding Bangladesh's grip in this field and create more opportunities for the country in global IT industry.
