First clinker plant starts functioning Sept 9

Friday, 7 September 2007

The country's first clinker plant will produce cement clinkers from September 9. The private-owned plant will produce about 200 tonnes of clinkers every day. Industries Adviser Geeteara Safiya Chowdhury is expected to inaugurate the plant. At present, a total of 600 million tonnes of clinkers are being imported spending Tk 25 billion (2,500 crore) annually. The functioning of the plant will help reduce the import of the clinker. At present, the country has 63 cement factories. Of them, 34 are running and the rest units remain closed due to scarcity of the raw material. —UNB
