First diesel shipment from Assam due at Baghabari June 15

The first shipment of around 800 tonnes of diesel from Assam of India is likely to arrive at Baghabari in Serajganj on June 15, sources said Tuesday.
They said a total of six local barges have already sailed for the Nomaligorh of Assam to carry the fuel.
State-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) is importing 120,000 tonnes of diesel from Indian government-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) under an agreement signed in Dhaka on May 17.
The sources said a total of around 5,000 tonnes of diesel will arrive in June.
They said the import of diesel from India will cost the government less because of lower price and transport cost.
The import price per barrel of diesel from India will cost $5.49, compared with $5.51 in the Middle East.
The sources said the import will not only help save US$ 1.5 per barrel as transit loss, which is normally incurred during transportation from Chittagong to Bhagabari, but also will benefit the local oil tankers.
